Growing up on a farm it was inevitable that later in life I would end up working outdoors in some way or another. I started my journey to where I am today with an apprenticeship with Brentwood District Council within the parks department. There I gained experience in a broad range of activities, from parks and gardens to nursery management and everything in between.
What I got most enjoyment from was anything sports related. Learning the skills to manage football and rugby pitches, bowling greens, athletic fields and cricket tables I gained the experience that is transferable to ensure the maintenance of quality lawns for your home or business.
During this time is when I gained my passion for turf. Whilst working, I studied at Writtle College for three years where I achieved a City and Guilds in both horticulture and golf and sports turf management.
I then decided to take a fantastic opportunity to work at one of Essex’s top Golf Clubs where I perfected my turf skills in the role of deputy course manager.
Now as Cross Cut Lawns I’d like to share my knowledge and experience with you to provide the lawn that you can enjoy and will be the envy of others.

Since 1997 when we first got together I had no interest in grass whatsoever, glazing over when Andrew started talking about it! I had no idea how complex and skilled he was in his career.
After a successful career as a Sales and Training Manager when our two boys were born I ran my own company to fit in with raising a family. Knowing how much Andrew wanted to launch his own business we knew he couldn't do it alone, so our partnership in Cross Cut Lawns was born as well as being husband and wife.
Originally planned that I would be behind the scenes only, completing all paperwork, customer enquiries and business management but due to the success of the business it was not long after launching that I was joining him customer facing too. Part time, I now join Andrew on our mowing rounds and our busy seasons for renovations and turfing as well being behind the scenes.
Why Choose Cross Cut Lawns
Why did we call it Cross Cut Lawns?
We dream of a perfect looking lawn. There are several ways of mowing to achieve this. One way is straight lines with cross cutting to produce perfect shading – a term known as 'a cross cut lawn'.
